FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Professional menace and internet personality Jack Doherty was reportedly forced into an unexpected collaboration with the Broward County booking department Friday after being arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, marking the latest occasion on which the 22 year old's day took an abrupt turn away from whatever he had originally planned.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers responded to a residence shortly before noon following a report of a domestic dispute involving Doherty and a woman. Police said the two had gotten into a physical dispute inside the home, though the woman was not injured. Doherty was subsequently taken into custody and booked into Broward County Main Jail.

Sources familiar with the situation said Doherty appeared frustrated by the development, particularly after discovering that the facility had no obvious camera operator, ring light, or thumbnail designer available to help document the experience.

"It was kind of hilarious," said one totally real booking officer. "We told him he was being booked into jail, and he looked at us like we had just canceled a brand deal."

Another officer reportedly struggled to maintain a straight face while processing the paperwork.

"Look, Jack, I'm sure the prisoners are going to love you," the officer allegedly said in the turn of events. "You've got millions of followers, you've got a mug shot, and you've already got a career built around making people uncomfortable. You're basically walking into an audience that doesn't have Wi-Fi."

The officer then allegedly paused before adding, "Just don't ask them to subscribe."

Doherty's booking also presented the unusual spectacle of a professional provocateur encountering an environment where nobody appeared interested in being provoked.

For years, Doherty has built an enormous online audience through stunts, pranks and videos in which ordinary situations are treated as though they require several cameras and a thumbnail with somebody's mouth open. His latest encounter with law enforcement, however, offered considerably less control over the production environment.

"He's used to walking into a room and everybody immediately knowing who he is," said another officer. "Here, somebody looked at him and asked for his name. That was probably a terrifying moment."

Friends of Doherty were similarly divided over the arrest, with several allegedly expressing support while others appeared less interested in preserving his dignity.

"I love Jack, but this is an insane career arc," said friend Trevor McCallister. "Most people spend their early twenties trying to avoid getting arrested. Jack is apparently trying to speed run a criminal record, I guess."

Another friend was considerably less sympathetic.

"Jack has always had this weird thing where he wants everyone to believe he's the toughest guy in the room," the friend said. "But if you're picking fights with somebody you think is safe to fight, that's not exactly the same thing as being tough. If the other person had been some enormous dude built like a refrigerator, we'd probably be reading a completely different story right now."

A third friend, who had apparently decided that the appropriate response to the situation was to make it worse, offered an even harsher assessment.

"He's always talking like he's this gigantic alpha male," the 3rd friend said. "Brother, you got booked into Broward County. The corrections department didn't exactly have to assemble the Avengers."

Another acquaintance reportedly responded to the news by simply texting, "This is the least surprising sentence I've ever read."

There was also disagreement among Doherty's friends over the circumstances of the physical dispute. Reports have said the details remain unclear, while a source close to Doherty claimed he acted in self-defense.

"Nobody knows exactly what happened," said one friend. "Which means naturally everyone on the internet already knows exactly what happened."

As of Friday evening, Doherty was being held at Broward County Main Jail. He later appeared in bond court, where a magistrate found probable cause and set bond at $1,000, with an order prohibiting contact with the alleged victim.

For the booking officers, meanwhile, the encounter represented something of a professional novelty: an inmate who had spent years turning every minor inconvenience into a public spectacle had finally encountered an institution with absolutely no interest in becoming part of the content.

"Honestly, we're just doing paperwork," one officer said. "He's the one making this a crossover episode."

At the time, Doherty was reportedly still waiting for the Broward County Main Jail collaboration to reach it's ending, while somewhere in South Florida, a thumbnail designer was reportedly trying to figure out how to make the words "ARRESTED AGAIN" fit without covering up the mug shot.
